About
Nursing education can maintain rigor while becoming more human.
I started at the bedside. Emergency nursing taught me how to think under pressure, work with people in difficult moments, and stay useful when the situation kept changing.
When I moved into education, I assumed my clinical experience would carry me. It prepared me to teach nursing. It did not prepare me for everything else that comes with being a nurse educator: the workload, the identity shift, the emotional labor, and learning to design learning experiences instead of simply delivering content.
Most of that work is invisible. It is cognitive and emotional, it happens between the scheduled hours, and it rarely shows up in a course evaluation. Naming it changed how I approached the role.
Year of Practice™ came out of that recognition — a free mentorship and microlearning series for educators navigating the realities and identity shifts of the role, especially in the first few years.
Alongside it, my work on emotional intelligence in nursing education grew into the EQ Nurse Movement: how we understand ourselves, respond to learners, and create conditions where people can actually participate and learn.
That led me further into human-centered learning design — building relevant, rigorous experiences grounded in how people think, regulate, and learn, rather than how content has traditionally been organized.
More recently I have been exploring practical AI: using a small number of tools thoughtfully as a thinking and design partner, to support creativity and reduce unnecessary work. AI is one practical component of the work, not the point of it.
PulsePoint Nursing Education brings together four connected conversations about how we teach, support learners, and sustain ourselves in the work.
I am still learning, building, and asking better questions, and this is where I share what I am discovering along the way.
